A private antique
and experimental airplane community, Peach State Airpark is gated
with 29 residential lots and a 2,400-foot (732-m) runway strip with
a 600-foot (183-m) overrun. Each homeowner owns a share in the
runway.Additionally, rental hangars are available within the
community.
Vulcan Steel was chosen to design and manufacture the hangar that
serves as a museum and restaurant in the community. The museum
hangar is a 100- by 100- by 20-foot(30- by 30- by 6-m) building
with 30-foot (9- m) by 100-foot lean-to's running down each
sidewall. One of the lean-to's is built with a mezzanine that
overlooks the tarmac, which is used as an observation deck to view
the airplanes.
Designed to
replicate the first Delta Airlines hangar built at Hartsfield
International in Atlanta, the building has main frames that are
gambrel and one endwall equipped with an 80- by 14-foot (24- by
4-m) horizontal sliding door entrance for the airplanes. Vulcan
Steel also built other hangars within the community that serve the
residents.
