Owned by Copain
Wine Cellars LLC, the Copain Winery distributes top-quality wines
across the United States. The company uses "Old-World" techniques
in its wine making to avoid little intervention in its process.
This technique employs natural primary and malolactic fermentations
without the addition of cultural yeasts and bacteria, creating
wines that are bottled unfined and unfiltered to avoid any
stripping of flavors or aromas that are characteristic of the
source vineyard. The Copain Winery produces wines that allow for a
unique expression of each vineyard's qualities and characteristics
while creating a wine that is complementary to food.
For this project, the Metallic Building Co.'s pre-engineered metal
buildings that were incorporated on the 20 acres (8 hectares) of
land also needed to fulfill the company's approach to wine
making.
The first metal building houses the fermentation tanks, while
the other holds the barrels in which the grapes are crushed and
processed. Both buildings are lean-to structures that total 10,000
square feet (929 m2). The fermentation storage building is 32 3/4
feet by 127 11/12 feet by 20 1/2 feet (10 m by 39 m by 6 m) and the
second building is 33 3/4 feet by 75 1/3 feet by 20 1/2 feet (10 m
by 23 m by 6 m). Both buildings incorporate Lokseam roof panels and
PBC endwall and sidewall panels by Metallic Building. The Lokseam
roof, in a Signature 300 Colonial Red Kynar finish, was installed
over 4-inch (102-mm) API and was chosen for its low maintenance and
aesthetics. Other metal accessories in the project included large
peak skylights, chosen for their energy efficiency.
Construction took place between June and November 2007.
