Art Museum Expansion Utilizes Metal Panels

The Indianapolis
Museum of Art, Indianapolis, is one of the nation's largest general
fine arts museums that maintains permanent collections of African,
Asian, American, Contemporary and European art. A $74 million
expansion project added 140,000 square feet (13,006 m2) to the
building with three new wings, 50 percent more gallery space, an
outdoor garden court, expanded educational facilities and other new
visitor amenities. Additionally, 90,000 square feet (8,361 m2) of
existing space at the museum was renovated. The project used 40,000
square feet (3,716 m2) of Cambridge, Mass.-based RHEINZINK
Preweathered Blue-Gray modular wall panels fabricated from
Reynobond Zinc Composite Material manufactured by Alcoa
Architectural Products, Eastman, Ga.
The panels were
fabricated and installed by Schaffner Heaney Associates, Inc.,
South Bend, Ind. Henry C. Smither Roofing Co., Indianapolis,
fabricated and installed 16,000 square feet (1,486 m2) of RHEINZINK
0.03-inch (0.8-mm), 22-gauge Preweathered Blue-Gray Flat-Lock
Tiles, installed square on diagonal. Henry C. Smither Roofing also
installed 7,000 square feet (650 m2) of RHEINZINK 0.03-inch,
22-gauge Preweathered Blue-Gray UC-3 Double-Lock Standing-Seam roof
panels fabricated by Firestone Metal Products, Anoka, Minn.
Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects, Indianapolis, was the
architect, and F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co., Indianapolis, was the
general contractor.
