Coastal Carolina University is a liberalarts college located in
Conway, S.C., close to the Myrtle Beach, S.C. area. The
university's Athletic Training Center is a new 61,944-square-foot,
three-story facility that abuts one end of the university's
football stadium and provides an additional 1,700 seats for fans on
an outdoor balcony overlooking the gridiron.
Designers, Stubb, Muldrow and Herin Architects chose a 24-gauge,
16-inch-wide Englert Series 2500 standing seam panel for the
23,900-square-foot roof in Ash Gray from Englert Inc. The designers
chose the same color for the soffits around the perimeter of the
building's eaves as well as a 7-inch box gutter around the
building. All of the coil for the roof, soffits and gutters were
supplied by Englert and manufactured and installed on-site by Spann
Roofing & Sheet Metal. Actual construction was a joint venture
of Mashburn Construction and The Christman Co.
Home of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, the LEED Gold
facility houses a first-floor weight room, showers and locker room
and equipment room for the university football team. Classrooms and
a cardiovascular area are on the second floor and the top floor
houses coaching offices, meeting rooms, a catering kitchen and
alumni gathering area. The facilities embrace the athletic
department's mission of creating "Champions for Life."
