Georgia Tech's football program now has an indoor practice
facility, thanks to a commitment from Mary R. and John F. Brock
III. The 88,000-squarefoot facility includes a full-size football
field in an enclosed space with massive hangar doors that allow
easy access to and from the existing outdoor facility. A viewing
platform surrounds the field and later, a ceiling mounted camera
system will allow players and coaches to review practice film.
Paul Johnson, head coach, notes, "It gives us a place here on
campus [where] we can practice in bad weather and get in during
storms; plus it will help in recruiting."
The facility took 590 tons of steel to build and features 107
squares of horizontal metal siding of McElroy Metal Inc.'s 22-gauge
MegaRib panels in a range of sizes from 10.66 to 30 inches. The
facility's vertical walls consist of 220 squares of Fabral's
22-gauge 4.2 Corrugated panels in Ash Gray, while the roof features
800 squares of Fabral's 24-gauge Stand N' Seam 16 roof panels in
Bone White. The soffit and door panels are made up of Fabral's
Select Series 12, also in Bone White.
According to Dan Radakovich, Georgia Tech's athletic director,
"Early in Coach Paul Johnson's tenure, we discussed the importance
of having a place where the team could practice away from the
elements. … This new facility will provide us with significantly
more efficiency in scheduling our practice sessions."
