Dan DiMicco wins AISC Robert P. Stupp Award

- Daniel R. DiMicco, chairman and chief executive officer of
Nucor Corporation, is the recipient of the prestigious Robert P.
Stupp Award for Leadership Excellence. The award, presented on a
selective basis by the American Institute of Steel Construction
(AISC), gives special recognition to individuals who have provided
unparalleled leadership in the steel construction industry. DiMicco
will be honored at the 2012 NASCC: The Steel Conference (
www.aisc.org/nascc) at the Gaylord Texan Convention Center in
Dallas, April 18-20.
DiMicco has served the steel industry for more than 35 years,
starting in 1975 with Republic Steel Corp. in Cleveland where he
began as a research metallurgist and project leader. He joined
Nucor in 1982 as plant Metallurgist and manager of quality control
for its Plymouth, Utah facility. In 1991 he became general manager
of the Nucor-Yamato joint venture in Blytheville, Ark., and became
vice president in 1992. Seven years later he became executive vice
president of Nucor Corp. and in 2000 he was elected president and
CEO. He was elected vice chairman of the board of directors in 2001
and chairman of the board in 2006.
He served on the AISC Board of Directors from 1999-2001. In 2008
he was appointed to the U.S. Manufacturing Council by then U.S.
Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and served on the board
until 2011. Currently he serves on the board of directors for Duke
Energy Corp., Charlotte, N.C., the American Iron and Steel
Institute, and the World Steel Association where he has also been
elected to the executive committee.
