AMLI South Lake Union apartment complex, Seattle

AMLI South Lake Union apartment complex, SeattleTom Sheldon, AIA, principal at GGLO LLC (GGLO Design), says the design inspiration for AMLI Residential's AMLI South Lake Union apartment complex came from iconic transportation vehicles. "The main building was designed to evoke a sense of sleekness and freedom," he says. "The smooth metallic and curvilinear form embodies the freedom associated with an airstream camper, a classic airplane or the sleek shape of an automobile. GGLO utilized the simplicity of AEP Span metal siding to achieve a curvilinear 3-D form."

Exterior Wall Systems Inc. installed metal wall panels supplied by AEP Span, a division of ASC Profiles LLC, for the project. It included AEP Span's 22-gauge Prestige Series metal wall panels in Cool Metallic Silver, Cool Terra Cotta and Cool Dark Bronze.

The AMLI South Lake Union project is located along Lake Union waterfront and is one of several of AMLI Residential's projects in the Seattle area. It was completed in April 2014. Sheldon says the metal siding's recycled content material contributed to LEED Silver certification. "In addition, the reflective and metallic nature of the finish enhanced the filtered light associated with the Seattle weather," he adds.
