Boyd County Judicial Center, Catlettsburg, Ky.

The consolidation of Boyd County, Ky., judicial services from several locations that included an aging 100-year-old courthouse into a modern new Judicial Center was met with overwhelming acceptance. The 61,000-square-foot facility in Catlettsburg, Ky., provides state-of-theart courtrooms and administrative space.

More than 30,000 square feet of material from Citadel Architectural Products in two different systems was utilized in exterior and interior applications. Approximately 24,000 square feet of Citadel's Envelope 2000 metal composite material in Bone White and installed using the Reveal (RV) system, clads the three-story structure.

The new facility connects to the existing courthouse and jail via an overhead walkway. The interior of the pedway utilized approximately 6,000 square feet of Citadel's Panel 15 system.

"The Citadel panels interface nicely with masonry," according to Rick Kremer, president and project architect at Louis & Henry Group. "The metal shows the progressive nature of the city while the masonry speaks to its history."

While this was Kremer's first use of the Citadel system, he is already planning on using it again on another courthouse project he is designing. "Naturally, I like the economy of the RV System but what I really like are the joints which give a nice crisp look. The panels themselves are quite stiff and don't oil can. It's really a cost effective way of getting the look of a much more expensive system," Kremer says.

Boyd County2"One of the big advantages of the Envelope 2000 RV System involves scheduling," says Steve Black, project manager at Spohn Associates Inc., the distributor and installer. "Since it is all fieldcut, that allows us to get the material into the field very quickly and get started on the job. With other systems, you have to have full, precise dimensions before any fabrication can begin. RV is a great, quality system."
