Fireboat Firehouse, Fire Department of New York (FDNY), New York City

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has a new Fireboat Firehouse that serves as the command center for FDNY's Marine Company 1 and its water-pumping vessel, the 343. The facility features 15,000 square feet of Woburn, Mass.-based RHEINZINK America Inc.'s Double Lock standing seam roof panels and Flat Lock tile. The Double Lock standing seam roof panels were fabricated by Beninati Roofing & Sheet Metal, Yonkers, N.Y., while the rectangular Flat Lock tile was fabricated by Sirois Sheet Metal, New Britain, Conn. Both profiles were installed by Beninati Roofing. The architect was CR Studio Architects, New York City, and the distributor was CT Roofing Reps Inc., East Berlin, Conn.

The 343 is a sleek new vessel that was commissioned in the wake of 9/11 and can travel up to 18 knots and pump 50,000 gallons of water, 50 times more than a typical fire truck. The 8,500-square-foot facility provides docking space for the 343 and other smaller vessels, as well as dormitory space for up to 10 firefighters at a time.
