Every year for more than 30 years, Metal Construction News has asked its readers to tell us what’s happening in the metal construction industry. The response this year was nearly 15 percent higher than last year and as strong an indication for an improving market as anything our readers have reported.

Our readers also report increased activity in metal buildings, metal roofing and metal framing. Not only was 2012 a better year than 2011, but our readers hold improved prospects for 2013.

A deeper look at the data seems to indicate growth is coming from the top of the market. Larger companies are more likely to increase the number of projects they do. For 2013, for example, the number of companies reporting they will do more than 50 metal buildings has increased the last two years and looks to improve in 2013. But those doing only one metal building a year is decreasing significantly
