Snapshot: Made in the Shade

Metal triangles form a tessellated pattern that serves as a suspended canopy in the woods. Consisting of 300 aluminum yield signs connected by custom aluminum joints, the structure was designed, fabricated and constructed by students at the New Orleans-based Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design. The surrounding tree canopy inspired the design, which is used for gathering, seating and teaching. The 900-square-foot canopy is suspended with steel cable from a larger steel structure to create its undulating, complex curve.
