CopperWorks Corp.[1] was founded in 1993 by Guenther Huber-Delle, whose family had been in the sheet metal business in Germany for more than 200 years. Located in Decatur, Ala., CopperWorks specializes in the design, fabrication and installation of copper and zinc roofing projects. Huber-Delle consults nationally with architectural firms and contractors on the design and specification of roofing projects, specializing in historical renovation and preservation. Copper- Works has reroofed and restored numerous houses in historic districts as well as historical residences, liturgical and institutional buildings, universities, public buildings and churches in North America. Priding itself as a dome specialist, CopperWorks has installed them throughout the United States.
Huber-Delle began his career in Kisslegg, Germany, learning his craft by working for his family’s company. Representing the fourth generation of specialty sheet metal craftsmen, today he thrives on historic restoration and his company benefits from this passion. “We are extremely specialized in what we do,” he says. “There are not too many award-winning companies out there that can do what we can do. In 2007, when companies were suffering because of the economic meltdown, we kept doing our restoration work. We never had a let-up in work.”
A quality that sets CopperWorks apart from other companies is its attention to meeting deadlines. “Large companies want to have their construction finished in a good time frame, and our company is always on time,” he says. “When we go to a construction site, we develop and keep the time schedule. When we tell people we can do something in three months, then we do it in three months. When we say eight months, then we can do it in eight months.”
Quality is always stressed and CopperWorks’ track record reflects this. “We check our work every day; any quality mistakes are immediately solved,” he says. “You can’t carry a mistake over and we don’t build on mistakes.”

Huber-Delle feels Ornametals Manufacturing makes his company a one-stop shop for his clients. “Because of our sister company, we can fabricate anything,” he says. “We can design and fabricate sheet metal roofing for buildings from entire solutions to custom solutions. We can craft and install diverse material roofs as well as add elements of materials to high-quality shingle roofs, such as copper flashings. It doesn’t matter if it is a multimillion dollar public building or a residential house, CopperWorks can install anywhere.”
CopperWorks has received several awards in the United States. In 2001, it was a finalist for the National Roofing Award for the restoration of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman, Ala. In 2012, it received an award from the Copper Development Association
(CDA) for its restoration of the Church of Nativity in Huntsville, Ala.
In 2015, for its work on an award-winning private residence built on a bluff in Lookout Mountain, Tenn., CDA honored CopperWorks as the sheet metal contractor in the Private Residence category. CDA cited CopperWorks for its ability to successfully overcome, “Installation challenges due to the low-pitch roof, the dramatically high fascia, and the need to integrate each roof element to ensure longevity and low-maintenance cost.” It was CopperWorks’ work in cooperation with Raleigh, N.C.-based Baker Roofing Co., in 2013 on the new copper roof at the Kansas State Capitol, Topeka, Kan., that helped earn a 2014 Metal Construction News Building and Roofing Award in the Metal Roof-Retrofit category.
