High-performance materials and qualified installation are essential to building a metal roofing business

At the Metal Roofing Alliance[1] (MRA), we believe the word “quality” encompasses all these ideas and more. A quality residential metal roof should meet rigorous standards based on verifiable testing protocol, well-documented building codes and third-party research.

The culmination of certain standards is the result of years of testing, performance data and research documented in the Metal Construction Association’s[2] (MCA) roofing specifications. These are the quality specifications that all MRA members agree to adhere to and help promote through consumer education and resources, such as the MRA’s “Residential Metal Roofing Buyer’s Guide.”[3]

We have a massive opportunity in the residential metal roofing industry. A metal roof can provide performance and style benefits above and beyond any other roofing material on the market but only if it’s a quality product installed by a knowledgeable, quality installer.

To help explain these specifications and to provide more information about quality standards, MRA will host a seminar during METALCON[4]2022 in Indianapolis entitled, “Residential Metal Roofing Specifications–Ensure Quality.” This session will take place on Oct. 13, 2022 at 11:30 a.m., and we will walk through the importance specifications play in ensuring a quality metal roof job, including things to consider when selecting and recommending products, and installation best practices that can help maximize a roof’s performance for years and decades to come.

Why is setting the bar for quality in the residential metal roofing industry so important? There’s no doubt a roof will only perform to the level of products and materials from which it is made. Using sub-par products that are not designed for or manufactured to these defined quality standards could mean a shorter life span for a roof, as well as unforeseen complications, hassles and even the threat of liabilities and lawsuits.

We have a massive opportunity in the residential metal roofing industry. A metal roof can provide performance and style benefits above and beyond any other roofing material on the market but only if it’s a quality product installed by a knowledgeable, quality installer.

Maintaining a level of quality means choosing the right metal substrate, gauge and recommending the appropriate coatings. Doing so can make or break a roofing project’s reliability and longevity, impact the aesthetics and affect how the roof will perform under severe stress tests, such as high winds, heavy snow and ice, hail and wildfire threats. Details large and small can have an impact on customer satisfaction, from the underlayment selected, to the components and accessories used to deliver on performance expectations and warranties.

Manufacturers and tradespeople who stand for certain standards understand that delivering on the promise of quality can directly impact the bottom line, and ultimately the reputation and future growth of the residential metal roofing industry. After all, an unhappy client stuck with an inferior roof that doesn’t perform as anticipated can result in expensive call-backs, bad reviews and negative word of mouth that can hurt and even destroy a business. Ultimately, poor quality can damage an entire industry, giving it a black eye.

MRA members help the residential metal roofing industry grow and thrive by strengthening its credibility and reputation through a commitment to quality standards. They understand how that commitment benefits the bottom line. Customers seeking good quality and a job done right are less likely to be swayed by the best deal or the lowest bid possible. They prioritize performance, protection and longevity, and aren’t looking to cut corners, making them the kind of customers most businesses prefer to work with.

In the residential metal roofing industry, when your business and reputation are on the line, quality really is everything. Please join us at METALCON 2022 to learn more about metal roofing specifications that can help set your business up for success, now and in the future.
