National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction

For the fourth year, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is planning its two-week fall prevention awareness campaign called “National Fall Prevention Stand Down.” It will take place from May 4-15, 2015, and OSHA is calling on all employers to take time out to address fall prevention issues with their workers.

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers, accounting for 279 of the 806 construction fatalities recorded in 2012.

Last year, the Stand-Down reached more than one million workers, and this year OSHA has set a goal to reach 3 million workers. That equals 40 percent of the construction workforce in the country.
