The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress a separate but related organization of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) presents the 2013-14 Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program http://www.roofingindustryalliance.net/programs/scholarship/[1]. The program, administered by Scholarship Management Services,® a division of Scholarship America,® is available to assist NRCA contractor and supplier member employees and their families.

Employees and their families who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college and vocational programs are eligible for the merit-based scholarships. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record; potential to succeed; leadership and participation in school and community activities; honors; work experience; a statement of education and career goals; and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

Scholarship recipients will receive funding for full-time study at any accredited post-secondary institution of the student’s choice. Each scholarship recipient will receive a $5,000 award, renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study or until a bachelor’s degree is earned as long as recipients renew annually and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

Applications are available online and must be completed and mailed along with a current and complete official transcript to Scholarship Management Services postmarked no later than Jan. 31, 2013.

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress[2] also presents its Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards program[3], open to roofing contracting firms and distributor and supplier firms.

MVPs demonstrate work-related and personal goals to which others aspire. The program formally recognizes employees who, under normal circumstances, may not be publicly recognized for their efforts or eligible to participate in company recognition or incentive programs. Winners are chosen based on their significant contributions to one or more of the following areas: outstanding on-the-job performance; on-the-job safety performance; contributions to a team effort; community service and volunteerism; and other noteworthy contributions and activities. Up to 10 roofing workers will receive the recognition.

MVP winners will receive two complimentary airfares and two nights’ hotel accommodations during the National Roofing Contractors Association’s (NRCA’s) 126th Annual Convention in San Antonio; one complimentary conference registration and exhibit hall pass to the 2013 International Roofing Expo®; two complimentary tickets to the NRCA Cocktail and Awards Reception; and a $100 American Express gift card. Additionally, one MVP winner will be chosen to be Professional Roofing‘s Best of the Best, an award co-sponsored by OMG Roofing Products Inc., Agawam, Mass., and will be featured in an article in Professional Roofing.

Self-nominations are not allowed. Each participating firm must prepare and submit an official entry form along with supporting information.
