Tarlton Names Pfund Senior Vice President

Tarlton Corp.[1], a St. Louis-based general contracting and construction management firm, has promoted Matthew Pfund to senior vice president. In his new role, Pfund will be responsible for company operations and directing Tarlton team projects.

Pfund recently served as vice president at Tarlton, where he directed two of St. Louis’ most visible construction projects: the 200,000-square-foot expansion to the Saint Louis Art Museum[2] and new Barnes-Jewish Center for Outpatient Health[3]. As vice president, Pfund also advanced Tarlton’s productivity improvement initiatives and managed the firm’s TEAM equipment and maintenance facility.

Pfund, who joined Tarlton as an engineering intern in 1995, is serving as project director for the Olin Business School[4] Expansion at Washington University[5] in St. Louis. He also played a key role on more than 30 Tarlton projects at Washington University, including the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center[6], which began construction in 1999, and the Washington University School of Medicine[7]. Pfund’s early career at Tarlton includes serving as a project engineer at the Chain of Rocks Water Treatment Facility[8], City of St. Louis Water Division[9], as well as later projects at the Saint Louis Zoo[10], BJC HealthCare[11], the U.S. General Services Administration[12], Macy’s[13] and Nordstrom Inc[14].

In addition, Pfund has applied his vast experience to spearhead construction-related community service projects in the St. Louis area. In his hometown of Edwardsville, Ill., he donated his expertise to manage the 2013 all-volunteer construction of a playground designed for children of all abilities at Township Park. In 2012, he helped build an “Intelligent House” as part of the Smithsonian exhibition at the Kemper Art Museum[15] in St. Louis. Working with architecture faculty from Washington University’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts[16], Pfund organized Tarlton employees and several area contractors who donated time and materials to build the prototype structure outside the museum over a weekend. Through Rebuilding Together-St. Louis, Pfund coordinated a Tarlton initiative to build a new second-story porch and stairs for a resident living near the firm’s headquarters.

Pfund is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville[17]. He and his wife, Kristen, reside in Edwardsville, Ill., with their three children.
