Entries Open for 2020 North American Copper in Architecture Awards

Entries are now open for the 2020 North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) awards. Architects, designers, and sheet metal contractors are invited to submit[1] their building projects for consideration through January 31, 2020.

For over a decade, the NACIA program has been North America’s premier award program in the field of copper architecture, craftsmanship, and design. Since its launch in 2008, NACIA award-winning projects demonstrate a wide range of variety, including government buildings, private homes, places of worship, commercial buildings, healthcare buildings, and more – all of which can be found on CDA’s website[2]. A few notable projects from the last 2-3 years include:

The American Copper Buildings
New York, New York
New Construction – Wall Cladding
Architect: SHoP Architects
Arizona State University, Biodesign Institute C
Tempe, Arizona
New Construction – Wall Cladding
Architect: ZGF
Exterior Envelope Sub-contractor: Kovach Building Enclosures
West Block Rehabilitation Project Parliamentary Hill
Ottawa, Ontario
Restoration – Roofing
Architect: Arcop/Fournier Gersovitz Moss Drolet Architects in Joint Venture
Sheet Metal Contractor: Heather and Little Ltd.

In order to meet requirements for eligibility, the projects must be located in the United States or Canada, feature a significant application of architectural copper alloys, and have been completed between 2017 and 2020. Winning projects are chosen by a panel of experts and professionals in the copper industry, and judgements are based on:

Sustainable copper solutions
Green copper strategies
Copper system design
Integration of copper alloys with the overall building design
Craftsmanship of installation
Excellence in innovation or restoration

Groups or individuals who submit an award-winning project will receive recognition on CDA’s website as well as promotion in various publications.
