The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,922,265 net tons, a 6.5 percent increase from the 7,436,388 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2013, and a 6.9 percent decrease from the 8,512,825 net tons shipped in March 2012. Shipments year-to-date (YTD) in 2013 are 23,569,379 net tons, a 7.3 percent decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 25,418,100 net tons for three months.
A comparison of March shipments to the previous month of February shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 7 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 2 percent and cold rolled sheet, no change.
