The Metal Building Manufacturers Association[1] (MBMA) is offering a free webinar, “Metal Building Systems and Life Cycle Assessment,” on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The webinar will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. EST, and all attendees will be provided 1.5 Continuing Education credits.
In this presentation, Jamie Meil and Matthew Bowick of the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute[2] will provide an overview of the Impact Estimator software[3] and how it can be used to evaluate a metal building system in order to meet the whole-building life-cycle assessment provisions in USGBC LEED v4, ICC International Green Construction Code and ASHRAE 189.1 green building standard.
The Athena Impact Estimator for Buildings is an LCA-based software package that helps designers easily incorporate environmental information while in the early stages of a project. This whole-building tool is used by design teams to explore the environmental footprint of different material choices and core-and-shell system options. The Impact Estimator provides a cradle-to-grave life cycle inventory for a whole building. The inventory results comprise the flows from and to nature: energy and raw material flows, plus emissions to air, water and land.
