Roof underlayments featured in Metal Construction News’ December 2019 issue.

Garland’s R-Mer Seal is a self-adhering, high-temperature, metal roof underlayment and vapor barrier. Its rubberized asphalt adhesive forms a flexible, watertight seal. R-Mer Seal works on slopes 2:12 and higher. It has elongation capability and tensile strength to accommodate roof surface expansion and contraction. Cross-laminated polymer film provides a non-slip surface for installers.

McElroy Metal’s HydraShell MAX and HydraShell Supreme SA are synthetic underlayments. HydraShell MAX has a four-layer construction and is used under all types of finished roofing materials including steel roofing. It is suitable for roof pitches as low as 1/2:12. HydraShell MAX requires few fasteners and provides a durable deck cover. HydraShell Supreme SA is a peel-and-stick underlayment. It works in high-temperature, self-adhering applications. It has SBS-modified asphalt that provides pliability and a cool gray surface that reduces heat build-up.

MFM Building Products Corp.’s Premium HT Tile and Metal high-temperature, self-adhering roof underlayment is composed of reinforced polyester fabric laminated to a high-temperature asphalt adhesive system. It has a fiberglass-reinforced core for durability. Additionally, the roof underlayment has a 3-inch (7-cm) selvedge edge to ensure a secure, monolithic seal. Premium HT Tile and Metal underlayment withstands high temperatures and has a high temperature rating of 250 F (121 C). The top surface bonds with foam adhesive systems and works with nail-down tile roofs.

Polyglass’ Polystick MTS Plus is a self-adhered, high-temperature underlayment for steep-slope metal roofs. MTS Plus has a slip-resistant film surface and is fiberglass reinforced for strength. Its exposure rating is to 180 days. MTS Plus is temperature resistant to 265 F, and can be installed as part of a multi-ply underlayment system.

VaproShield’s SlopeShield Plus is a self-adhered vapor permeable roof underlayment for steep slopes of 2:12 or greater pitch. It features Vapor Permeable Polymer Composite Technology (VPPCT), a combination of polymer coatings and adhesive that makes the underlayment watertight, vapor permeable, and able to withstand foot traffic and UV light.
