Reilly Johnson Architecture used three metal building systems in its design for Alamosa County Justice Center. The 42,500-square-foot building is almost 40,000 square feet of pre-engineered metal buildings, three structures in total. A small amount of structural steel and concrete masonry unit (CMU) tie them together.

Eave heights of the structures are 12 feet; 14 feet, 4 inches; and 30 feet. Second-level mechanical mezzanines hold mechanical infrastructure for the building. Three clerestories enhance aesthetics and allow natural light into the building.

Alcon Construction Inc., which served as general contractor in a joint venture with GH Phipps Construction Co., erected the metal buildings and completed the structural steel and CMU work. Behlen Building Systems supplied three metal building systems and a standing seam roof system, installed over 6-inch polyiso insulation. Walls have EIFS over fiberglass batt insulation. Additional features of the facility include a security system throughout, intricate millwork at judge benches in courtrooms and hearing rooms, and a large, multipurpose classroom for meetings and training.
