Reflective, curved glazing wraps around the exterior of a wing at Aquarium of the Pacific. Custom glazing was attached with an open-joint steel-and-aluminum carrier frame painted with a resistant coating.
Sentech Architectural Systems LLC supplied its VetraFin S-Series framing, and Pulp Studio Inc. produced 839 custom, triple-laminated glass panels. The glazing covers an 18,000-square-foot, curved surface area.
Kirk Johnson, COO at Pulp Studio, says, “Fixing the cladding in place without disrupting the sinuous surface of the façade remained a stylistic obstacle for the project. The city of Long Beach requires all façade panels to be mechanically secured, regardless of any use of structural silicone.”
