Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s utility plant occupied a small and high traffic area in a residential neighborhood. The goal of the project was not to make an ordinary utility plant, but something that would be a focal point of the area. Ribbed and smooth panels with matte and gloss finishes are alternated throughout the elevations to create a dynamic façade.
To build the 140,000-square-foot building, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. installed 14,000 square feet of Morin Corp.’s Matrix series MX 1.0 and MX 8.0 panels. The 0.05-inch-thick aluminum wall panels have custom Black Jack Fluropon Matte and Gloss finishes. Additionally, custom aluminum extrusions in Black Jack Matte were used.
