To reflect its desert location, HBG Design designed Desert Diamond Casino West Valley with a dynamic Earth theme. One example of the theme is how perforated metal on parking garages that flank both sides of the casino’s main structure are graze-lit by color-changing light fixtures.
Rob Jurbergs, AIA, principal and senior architectural designer at HBG Design, says, “The metal panels were always intended to be reminiscent of, and inspired by, the intense and brightly colored, changing desert sky. [The panels also] contrast against the more earthen/grounded elements such as the stone base and copper-hued, green-patinaed smooth metal panels.”
To enhance ventilation, and create depth and visual interest, the perforated metal panels are mounted on frames that angle out 15 degrees from parking deck walls.
“The light of the desert is part of the color of the panels themselves when the silvery metal reflects these hues,” Jurbergs says. “The galvanized substructure of the design is yet another architectural element that performed to add shadow and visual reading of either more solid or more transparent linearity to the design with our lighting effects.”
Gen3 Arizona LLC installed 25,000 square feet of Petersen Aluminum Corp.’s 0.04-inch-thick, perforated aluminum 7.2 Panels with a Silver finish.
The new structure replaced a smaller casino built as a temporary facility while the casino and resort were developed.
