FR8yard, Spartanburg, S.C.

The project team’s vision for the 9,387-square-foot site of the FR8yard restaurant, bar and beer garden was to create a social hub in the city’s developing central business district that incorporates ample outdoor seating, local cuisine and a music venue. McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture implemented a cluster of stacked shipping containers to create space for a full commercial kitchen, bar and restrooms. Total Storage Services LLC installed six, 20-foot-long shipping containers and two, 53-foot-long shipping containers, originally manufactured by Jindo Container Co. Ltd. The shipping containers are untreated and have a natural finish.
