Gilroy Police Station, Gilroy, Calif.

When the original design for a new police facility in Gilroy, Calif., came in over budget, the architect decided to replace the concrete tile mansard with Met-Tile facsimile roofing in Mission Clay. The Met-Tile system consisted of long-length, 26-gauge zinc-aluminum-coated steel panels. The majority of the 15,000 square feet (1,394 m2) of panels was used to create a decorative mansard that shields the rooftop mechanical equipment from view. The panels also function as a roof over two gable areas above the main entries.
