Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) recently opened a new, multi-story tower that is the region’s newest destination for emergency care, heart care, and one of the state’s few Level I trauma centers, making the hospital the third largest in the state by bed count. The 11-story, 86,121 m2 (927,000 sf) Green Tower features a new emergency department, which includes dedicated areas for trauma, resuscitation, minor care, behavioral health, and pediatrics. On the roof of the tower is a helipad with dedicated elevators to take patients direct
ly to the emergency room, operating rooms, or cardiac catheterization lab. The tower’s first floor is home to many Georgia Heart Institute services, including cardiac testing, catheterization labs, and endovascular operating rooms, as well as a new café. The second floor adds five operating rooms, while additional floors include a coronary care unit, cardiovascular intermediate care unit, and more. Located next to the existing North Patient Tower, the new Green Tower has blended well into the existing campus.
The use of metal panels creates a modern aesthetic for the hospital that blends into the surrounding environment. In total, 1,700 m2 (18,300 sf) of metal composite material (MCM), 4,560 m2 (48,000 sf) of profiled/single-skin (PSS) metal panels, and 864 m2 (9,300 sf) of louvers were used.
ALUCOBOND MCM with an FR Core in a standard two-coat Epernay Champagne Metallic color was installed in MillerClapperton’s System 1500 rainscreen attachment system. Panels are installed at the east ground floor, column covers and soffit, first-level canopy soffit and column covers, level 3 column covers and terrace soffit, and the rooftop helipad entrance. Morin BR7-35 single-skin metal panels in Antique Bronze are installed on the hospital elevator tower and rooftop HVAC wall screen cladding, and on the CEF building. Construction Specialties drainable and acoustical louvers in Antique Bronze were installed on the parking deck, CEF building, and on level 3 of the hospital.
