The main walls of Johns Hill Magnet School feature multiple striation patterns created with metal panels. To create the striation patterns, ridges in the faces of the panels are patterned and give the wall texture.
White panels clad horizontally oriented walls. Red panels were used at vertical panel areas as an accent. The main panel wall of the building has integrated windows and louvers that allow them to lock into the joinery of the panels and create a seamless transition. The insulated metal panels (IMPs) also provide insulation and a weather barrier.
CAD Construction Inc. installed CENTRIA’s 3-inch-thick Formawall Dimension Series IMPs in Flourofinish Off White and Tanager Red and FV600S Window system in Off White. CAD Construction also installed Construction Specialties Inc.’s CS DC 4174 louvers in Off White.
John Holland, vice president of operations at G&L Associates Inc., the panel dealer, says, “The main challenge with this building was that we used panels to create recessed areas that are not typical with this type of panel. We called these areas the eyebrow of the building. We returned the panel on a horizontal surface in several areas where it essentially acted as a roof panel for that area. Because of this, we had to go back to CENTRIA and have the details specifically designed to accomplish this intent. They were great through this process and provided important feedback on how to create these areas visually while not allowing water to infiltrate and detail conditions.”
