With the ultimate goal of relocating three entities under one roof, The Hagerman Group built a new campus for Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana Inc. The 36,000-square-foot building houses the organization’s headquarters, Junior Achievement Biz Town, and Junior Achievement Finance Park. There is a grand hall, entrepreneur center and corporate offices.

To construct the facility, two single-slope, pre-engineered buildings and two lean-tos were added to a conventionally framed center building. Bright green panels express the owners’ branding and perforated metal fascia is another architectural feature.

Kelli Warner, of Design Collaborative, says, “We wanted to design a building that was functional, durable, cost-effective and ultimately fun and pretty to look at. Going off of that, we decided that a pre-engineered metal building would be the best route. With that, we chose our base color and then played off of that and brought in highlights of green in the smooth metal panel and some painted elements to show off Junior Achievement’s brand. Not only did the green highlight Junior Achievement’s brand but it also added a sense of playfulness to the building and gave it just the right amount of color to make the building stand out to passersby. In addition, we added a perforated metal flying fascia to the exterior that dressed up the look and feel of the pre-engineered metal building. Because this is a building for all ages to enjoy, we wanted to add dimension and depth to give the kids something to talk about and something to draw them in.”

Metal was specified for its durability and minimal maintenance requirement. “We wanted something that would withstand all the elements that Indiana weather throws its way and something that wouldn’t be a big hassle for Junior Achievement down the road,” Warner says. “Metal was able to give us the functionality that we needed in addition to the sleek look and design that we envisioned.”

American Buildings Co. supplied two metal building systems, 24-gauge Galvalume Standing Seam 360 roof panels and 26-gauge steel Architectural III wall system in Slate Gray.
