The owner of Kenworth of Zanesville truck dealership wanted a building that could be expanded with additional bays when the company grows. A 26,500-square-foot metal building system with a mezzanine, metal roof and metal walls met project goals.

Big Horn Building Erectors erected Revere Steel Inc.’s metal building system. The building houses a 12-bay truck repair area with a 5-ton crane, parts area, show room with sales countertops and conference room.

Tal McCoy, owner at TalMac Construction Ltd., says, “The clear-span crane that goes from sidewall to sidewall was interesting. With pre-engineered metal buildings, cranes are not usually used. It was a pretty good size bridge. That was engineered into the pre-engineered metal building. They designed the building around the crane.”

In terms of construction, the mezzanine required additional steel fabrication. Metal stud framing was used in the buildout of the project. Railings, handrails and protective plates were designed for use in the building.

“The 2,600-square-foot mezzanine was built with bar joists, B-decking and concrete deck,” McCoy says. “It was 250 pounds per square foot as far as the deadload. Usually, they’re 150 pounds per square foot. But, this being a dealership, they needed to be able to put an engine up there, so it’s a beast of a mezzanine.”

For the roof, Big Horn Building Erectors installed Revere Steel’s reversed-rolled, trapezoidal standing seam roof system in Galvalume. The erector insulated the roof with Silvercote LLC’s Purlin Glide insulation system rated R-30.

For walls, Big Horn Building Erectors installed metal wall panels and trim in Kynar light gray, dark gray and custom Kenworth red.
