M & T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, Maryland

On the outside of M&T Bank Stadium, home to the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, mesh panels are etched with the team’s bird wing image. The etching process darkens the polished stainless steel with a matte finish. The stainless mesh panels provide airflow, cover from inclement weather and views of downtown from the stadium’s upper levels via pedestrian ramps and a set of escalators.

The mesh paneling is part of a facility-wide, LEED Gold-certified renovation project. To complete it, Cambridge Architectural supplied its mesh with a Mid-Balance pattern and Eyebolt attachment system.

Details with the wing image are incorporated throughout many M&T Bank Stadium upgrades. Tyler Robertson, AIA, architect/associate principal at Populous, overseeing the stadium renovations, says, etched mesh creates design continuity and is the largest and most visible of the stadium’s wing presentations. “The mesh would be beautiful on its own, but the Ravens created a distinct public art asset by having Cambridge Architectural etch 32 panels of their Mid-Balance mesh with a timeless design that celebrates the team and the City of Baltimore. The wing design changes the density of the etched mesh to create interest when approaching from the north and also from great distances on the skyline.”
