A former big box retail space was repurposed for Premier Gastroenterology Associates’ Premier Medical Plaza, medical, clinical and surgery facilities for several medical groups in 100,000 square feet of space.
Witsell Evans Rasco (WER Architects/Planners) designed the health care facility with abundant natural lighting, a palette of colors intended to be calming and materials that support safety, health, cleanliness and acoustic privacy.
In terms of ceilings, three ceiling systems from Rockfon met the project’s requirements. The lobby features a metal ceiling system in a warm, inviting, wood grain finish. The facility is outfitted throughout with two types of stone wool ceiling systems supported by metal suspension systems.
In patient waiting areas, natural light enters through floor-to-ceiling glass along exterior walls. To enhance the warm, calming atmosphere WER Architects/Planners designed a wood grain metal ceiling. Lauren Dickey, NCIDQ, ASID, director of interiors at WER Architects/Planners, says, “We were looking for something to help ground this space. Trying to bring that warmth and comfort into the interior waiting spaces where you’re going to have patients, and being able to do that in a medical space is hard. With Rockfon, we were able to put in a metal panel that looks like wood and allows you that durability, sustainability and fire-proof quality that you don’t get with wood.”
Clark Contractors LLC installed Rockfon’s Macroplus 6-inch linear metal ceiling panels with a Metalwood Maple Woodgrain finish. In the rest of the facility, Clark Contractors installed Rockfon’s Arctic and Medical Standard stone wool ceiling systems.
“We were able to use three different products here; each one served a specific purpose and really helped us get the design and aesthetics that we needed,” Dickey says.
