Page designed RagingWire’s TX1 Data Center to be welcoming, yet secure. It is the first building on a 42-acre campus that is planned to have 1 million square feet of data centers, and is different from some other data centers in that it is a co-location data center where multiple tenants have dedicated, secure space within the shared facility. The 260,000-square-foot facility is an anchor building for the campus, data center, visitor center and corporate office.
Metal is the main cladding material and emphasizes the form both by uniting the entire composition and breaking it down. A variety of colored metal panels characterize the design including smooth panels, corrugated panels and perforated panels.
Yellow, powder-coated metal boxes along the primary street façade denote the corners of the facility and create a strong presence and sense of security from the campus exterior. The entry is lighter and characterized by a black, metal-clad box floating over a series of glazed and white metal panels. Features include a white, metal-clad observation tower and purple, flat arch.
Peter Hoffman, principal at Page, says, “Metal was important for us to express the function of the program. We needed a material that could express the ideas of technology, innovation, safety and security. Metal was selected for its versatility, durability, and its expressive potential. The material is perfect for both projecting a high-tech image and providing a durable exterior envelope.”
At the main entrance, Harper Clayton Construction LLC fabricated, and Engineered Metals Co. LLC installed, 900 square feet of Alucoil North America’s Larson metal composite material (MCM) panels in Purple. On stairwells, Engineered Metals installed 19,000 square feet of Morin Corp.’s VB-36 perforated metal wall panels in Yellow.
For a walkway bridge and tower, Harper Clayton Construction fabricated, and Engineered Metals installed, 16,000 square feet of Larson MCM panels in White. For a screenwall, Engineered Metals installed 18,000 square feet of Morin’s VB-36 perforated metal wall panels in Gray. For another screenwall, Engineered Metals installed 13,500 square feet of Morin’s VB-36 perforated metal wall panels in Green. On walls at the back of the facility, Engineered Metals installed 15,000 square feet of McElroy Metal’s Wave Panels in Silver.
