To provide durability and longevity and fit existing architecture, a metal shake roof was installed on Greene Street United Methodist Church.

“The congregation wanted a maintenance-free, durable roofing solution to last at least 50 years,” says Todd Miller, president at Isaiah Industries Inc. “Since the building is nearly a century old, the new roof also needed to be lightweight. Choosing an aluminum roof created less structural load while providing durability and protection from the elements.”

On top of the 1,068.38-m2 (11,500-sf) church’s existing asphalt roof, Schroer and Sons LLC installed a synthetic underlayment and 0.48-mm (0.019-in.) thick aluminum, interlocking Country Manor Shakes in Shake Gray. Classic Metal Roofing Systems, a division of Isaiah Industries, supplied the metal shakes.

“After installation, the church members enjoy the updated curb appeal and ongoing energy savings,” says Miller. “Choosing a metal roof with a solar reflective coating requires less energy to cool, lowering operating costs.”
