Located on the site of the previously closed Schilling Air Force Base, Kansas State University’s satellite
campus specializes in aviation and aeronautical studies. The campus’ focal point is a brand new student center, which features approximately 15,000 square feet of Citadel Architectural Products’ Envelope 2000 metal composite material panels to create the desired look. The Silver Metallic panels were installed using the Reveal (RV) System, a field assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings.
“It’s a technical campus and we wanted to create a ‘wow factor’ that would be in keeping with its character,” says Rob Westberg, project architect with The Ebert Mayo Design Group. The Citadel-clad overhang on the building is symbolic of an aviation wing, according to Westberg. The Citadel panels were also formed to create column covers.
Hausman Metal Works installed the Citadel panels. Westberg was very pleased with the detailed finishing of the installation, saying, “They had some real craftsmen working on the job.”
The 34,000-square-foot facility offers a gymnasium, elevated running track, racquetball court, weight room, lounge, locker rooms and administrative spaces. It is an integral part of the first phase of the long-range plan for developing the campus.
