RHEINZINK America Inc.’s soffit panels highlight the main entrance of the 778,000-square-foot, 21-story Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at The Hospital for Sick Children, known as SickKids.
Gage Group installed approximately 53,000 square feet of RHEINZINK America’s prePATINA Flat Lock tiles in Blue-Grey on the façade and soffits. Agway Metals Inc. fabricated approximately 4,500 panels and was the distributor for the project. The project received LEED Gold certification and provides a whole-building approach to sustainability in five areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
The Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning is located on a dense, urban site and was designed to support the collaboration that results in research findings and the links between discovery and application in the care of sick children by bringing 2,000 researchers and staff previously dispersed throughout six buildings under one roof.
