To create an iconic architectural signpost with a parking garage and pedestrian bridge at Stamford Transportation Center for highway and railway travelers to see as a welcome sign to the city, STV Inc. designed exteriors with a wave-like pattern of metal panels. Integrated LED lighting produces a wide variety of colors and patterns, which adds to the dynamism of the design.

Unitized assemblies were an essential aspect of design and construction. The design required an engineered solution enabling curving panel assemblies to span 3.52 m (11.6 ft) and be attached to vertical hollow structural sectioned steel supports.

Regarding construction, the site is between an active rail yard and Interstate 95, making site logistics challenging. Unitization made it possible to complete the work. Units were factory-assembled with internal supports and shipped to the site as unitized assemblies.

On the exterior of the parking structure, Mohawk Construction and Supply Co. installed custom, perforated aluminum screen-wall panels, which have three-dimensional forms.

On the exterior of the pedestrian bridge, which connects the parking garage to the transit station, Mohawk vertically installed flat aluminum panels in a dry-set rainscreen system.

The project used 6,132 m² (66,000 sf) of 3 mm (0.125 in.) perforated aluminum with 51 mm (2 in.) diameter holes and solid face skins. Spectrum Metal Finishing Inc. finished the wall panels with a
two-coat clear anodic coating.
