For Winter Farms Arena in the mountains of Utah, Blackburn Architects PC designed a metal building system that accommodates human and equine occupants. Special material was placed on the floor for safety and to ease impact on the joints of jumping horses. During the summer months, overhead doors along the sidewalls can be opened to provide airflow and comfort to the animals and riders.

J&M Steel Solutions Inc. erected Nucor Building Systems’ metal building system to construct the 21,675-square-foot building. It has an 18-foot, 2-inch high eave, and its roof is insulated with an R-30 banded liner system. The horse arena is lined inside from floor to ceiling with liner panel covering the insulation, as well as in the roof structure. The walls are clad with cement fiber boards and insulated with R-19 batts.
