Fourth Generation Family Member Named Heath Steel President

Heath Steel has promoted Tony DeMario to president, making him the fourth generation of family members to lead a Heath construction company over the past 80 years.

It provides metal building supply and erection services to commercial, industrial, manufacturing, recreation and other industries across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. 80-year Heath family legacy

As the newest family member to lead a Heath construction firm, DeMario has strong entrepreneur genes.

  • His great grandfather launched Heath Engineering in the 1940s.
  • Grandfather Robert (Bob) Calvin Heath opened Heath Construction in 1977.
  • His father, Randy DeMario, became president of Heath Construction in 1998 and launched Heath Steel in 2009 while leading Heath Construction.

Randy remains as Heath Steel mentor and advisor while also leading Heath Engineering ̶- the engineering arm of Heath Steel ̶- with partner Dan Dekalb, who has 30 years of experience engineering metal buildings.

“I grew up listening to my dad and grandfather talk about the construction industry and Heath companies,” Tony DeMario said. “It’s such an honor to carry my family’s legacy forward and take Heath Steel into the next generation, while building upon the strong reputations of all past Heath companies.”

The right stuff

DeMario brings to the position knowledge of both the contractor and business sides of the metal building industry. Like other family members who have led Heath companies, he started his career from the ground up.

Over the years and even while earning his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University, he worked in a variety of roles and departments at Heath Construction and Heath Steel, including preconstruction, operations, and finance.

“Tony has proven himself at Heath Steel. He has the drive, commitment to staff and customers, and business acumen to continue expanding the company’s relationships with architects, general contractors and all the industries we serve,” said Randy DeMario. “I couldn’t be more confident that under his leadership Heath Steel will become the leading metal building supplier and erector in the region.”

Jason Miranowski, construction manager for international firm PCL Construction, who has worked with DeMario on several projects, said, “Tony is the right choice to be Heath Steel’s new president. He’s level-headed and considers all options before making decisions. His honesty and business approach bring out the best in all employees. I consider Heath Steel a true partner.”
