During the National Roofing Contractors Association’s 123rd Annual Convention Feb. 20-24, GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J., received the Charlie Raymond Award for recruiting new NRCA members in 2009. The Charlie Raymond Award is the most prestigious membership recruitment award NRCA bestows. The award annually honors a manufacturer and an individual for their extraordinary efforts to recruit new members to NRCA. NRCA President Rob McNamara, F.J.A. Christiansen Roofing Co. Inc., Milwaukee, won the individual award recruiting five new members. The Charlie Raymond Award is named for former NRCA President and J.A. Piper Award winner Charlie Raymond, who first became chairman of NRCA’s Membership Committee when the association had only 328 members and is responsible for recruiting many more. Raymond recruited the 1,000th member for NRCA in 1973. “As North America’s Largest Roofing Manufacturer, GAF is proud to support the NRCA’s ongoing recruitment efforts,” said Ted Marcopolus, Vice President at GAF, “and we’re proud to have won the Charlie Raymond Award for the sixth year in a row.”
