Cortez Fire Protection District’s Station No. 31 is a new one-and-a-half story fire station in the Four Corners area.

Atop the station, a prominent red metal roof contributes to many project goals for the 12,086-square-foot, LEED Silver-certified project. Metal roofing can withstand a very arid climate, huge temperature swings and intense sunlight at altitude without fading. Additionally, the red roof adds a splash of bright color to the desert backdrop.

Further, the metal roof system works well with the adjacent white TPO roofing system and numerous light wells. Metal roofing also works well with the thermal envelope, concentrating the rejection of heat at the heavily insulated roof surface.

WCA Construction LLC installed 4,400 square feet of Firestone Building Products Co. Inc.’s 24-gauge Galvalume UNA-CLAD UC-3 double-lock, architectural standing seam roof system in Kynar 500 Colonial Red.

The fire station has apparatus bays that open onto two main streets, support spaces including decontamination space. It also houses offices, multilevel training spaces and living/bunking facilities.
