Sevierville Community Center, Sevierville, Tenn.

A structural subframing system was utilized in a metal-over-metal retrofit project at Sevierville Community Center. The building’s standing seam roof was first installed in 1984. Challenges included the condition of the building’s roof geometry. It has sloped rakes due to skewed walls, valleys, varying slopes and other transitions.

The roof was designed and engineered by Chuck Howard, PE, of Metal Roofing Consultants Inc. Morristown Roofing Co. Inc. installed 12,720 feet of Roof Hugger LLC’s Model D subpurlins with a 4 1/2-inch web height. On top of the existing metal roof and under a new metal roof, Morristown Roofing installed 6 inches of fiberglass insulation.

On the subpurlins, Morristown Roofing installed 54,000 square feet of Metal Roofing Systems Inc.’s 24-gauge System 2500 standing seam roof system. Additionally, Morristown Roofing installed S-5!’s ColorGard snow retention system.
