Located in the heart of Austin, the Records Center houses valuable archives related to Texas Government and state history. With such sensitive records at stake, the Texas Facilities Commission could not afford to continue to endure the leaks caused by the building’s existing trapezoidal standing-seam roof.
The project was executed by incorporating a symmetrical product design, an innovative curb detail solution along with the Architectural Building Components’ jobsite production capabilities. Using ABC’s jobsite manufacturing vehicle, Archzilla, ABC was able to run the structural, symmetrical 238T standing-seam panels directing onto the 1,000-square-foot roof. The 24-gauge, 24-inchwide panels with striations in Regal White were manufactured in 130-foot continuous lengths.
The re-roofing was particularly challenging because of existing complex curb clusters protruding from the existing roof. ABC’s innovative Transverse Panel System Detail was utilized to define the perimeter of the curb and isolate the problem areas. By using Transverse Panels, the existing penetration curbs could be utilized without modification, while still eliminating end laps, as well as the reliance on exposed fasteners and/or sealant. Various 238T panel widths, in conjunction with Transverse Panels, were installed in a manner that prevents water from ever reaching the back of the curb, significantly improving the roof’s weathertightness, ensuring the state of Texas a lower total cost of ownership and a longer lasting roof.
