Located on an infill flag lot northwest of Phoenix, Ariz., 2 Barns reflects the homeowners’ agricultural past and the history of farming in the area.

Most of the 214.32-m2 (2,307-sf) home and 92.90-m2 (1,000-sf) garage are clad in 22 mm (0.86 in.) Galvalume corrugated metal, which requires minimum maintenance. The owners wanted to use materials, such as metal, that could be repurposed or recycled. For example, leftover siding pieces were given to a neighbor to complete a carport.

All the cladding is designed as a rainscreen. The 3D panels and small wood accents are also designed as rainscreen elements, providing variation in the structure’s material and texture.
