Top Metal Roofers 2014

The Metal Construction News' Top Metal Roofers for 2014 shows a strengthening construction market as our participants report an increase of 20.5 percent in the total square feet of metal roofing installed from 2013 to 2014.

The top of the list experienced significant growth with number one, Eastern Corp., Marietta, Ga., clocking in with a 31.6 percent jump; number four, Classic Superroof LLC, Hurst, Texas, experiencing a 12.5 percent jump and McHenry, Ill.-based Metalmaster Roofmaster (number five) stretching out a nearly 40 percent increase. While not the largest jump in square footage year over year, the size of those companies represent a significant increase in the amount of metal roofing installed. Unlike in previous years, only a handful of companies reported a decline in metal roofing construction.

For the first year, we asked our participants what kind of projects they worked on, including residential, commercial, institutional/school/church, industrial or other. Less than half (42.3 percent) of the work the Top Metal Roofers of 2014 did was on commercial projects while the majority was split between institutional (23.6 percent) and industrial (25.5 percent). Only about 7.7 percent of the work our participants did was on residential projects, while the other category accounted for less than 1 percent.

Not surprisingly, companies tended to concentrate in one or two segments of construction, but there were a couple that found success across all of the segments. The amount of work done did not seem to relate in any way to whether a company specialized in a segment or worked in all of them. In other words, larger companies didn't necessarily build in one segment, or conversely, build in all segments.

Two clear distinctions do arise, though. The companies at the top of the list are far more likely to participate in the industrial segment of construction than those at the bottom. And residential activity was concentrated almost exclusively in a couple of companies, while most of the companies did no residential work.

Congratulations to our Top Metal Roofers for 2014 and to their continued success.
