Ironstone Bank’s Memorial Drive office, completed in 2009, reflects the institution’s desire to have its quality of customer service be represented by the quality of its facilities. Ironstone, a subsidiary of First Citizens BancShares Inc., has 58 offices in 12 states. The bank regards its buildings as physical symbols of the company’s stability and strength, according to a bank spokesman. Approximately 800 linear feet of Flex-C Trac and Flex-C Arch was used in the project, including 16-gauge Flex-C Trac in 3 5/8, 8 and 10 -inch widths and 20-gauge Flex-C Arch in 3 5/8- inch width. “The goal was to create friendly, open space that would be inviting to customers,” said Kerry Kane, project architect and principal with Small Kane Webster Conley Architects. “The rotunda with its distinctive arches became a main point of our design emphasis. The flexible track really contributed to the high quality of the construction and appearance. It’s not easy to frame curves like that. Not only are the arches going up but they’re also curving around the radius walls of the rotunda. What results is a dramatic, one-of-a-kind interior.”
