NRCA announces more award winners

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) announced the winners of its Charlie Raymond Award and 2012 Gold Circle Awards Winners at ts 125th Annual Convention held Feb. 20-24 in Orlando, Fla. The awards were presented to NRCA members that made significant contributions to the roofing industry in the following categories:

Outstanding workmanship (Low-slope)

Winner:

  • Castro Roofing of Texas LP, Dallas, for The Hall of State at Fair Park, Dallas

Honorable mention:

  • Empire Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas, for Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center

Finalists:

  • Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal, Wheeling, W.Va., for KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, Ky.
  • Supreme Systems Inc., Dallas, for Texas Department of Criminal Justice C.T. Terrell Unit, Rosharon, Texas

Outstanding workmanship (Steep-slope)

Winners:

  • Buckley Roofing Co. Inc., Wichita, Kan., for Friends University’s Davis Hall, Wichita
  • Greenwood Industries Inc., Millbury, Mass., for Massachusetts State House, Boston

Honorable mention:

  • Ruff Roofers Inc., Baltimore, for Johns Hopkins University’s Gilman Hall, Baltimore

Finalist:

  • Ruff Roofers Inc., Baltimore, for Maryland Transit Administration, Pikesville, Md.

Innovative solutions (Reroofing)

Winner:

  • Empire Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas, for Muskogee Power Plant, Muskogee, Okla.

Honorable mentions:

  • Greenwood Industries Inc., Millbury, Mass., for Massachusetts State House, Boston
  • Ruff Roofers Inc., Baltimore, for Maryland Transit Administration, Pikesville, Md.

Service to the community

Honorable mentions:

  • Cobra Building Envelope Contractors, Spokane, Wash., for Cobra Polo Classic, Spokane
  • Mike’s Roofing and Building Corp., Van Nuys, Calif., for Valley Village, Winnetka, Calif.
  • Power Home Remodeling Group, Chester, Pa., for Community Outreach Initiatives, Chester

In addition, Empire Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas was awarded a
Gold Circle Safety Award for demonstrating superior safety measures during its work on Muskogee Power Plant, Muskogee, Okla. And Greenwood Industries Inc., Millbury, Mass., was awarded a Platinum Award for superior workmanship and presentation of its work on Massachusetts State House, Boston.

This year’s individual Charlie Raymond Award winner is former NRCA President Allen Lancaster, president of Metalcrafts Inc., Savannah, Ga., and this year’s roofing manufacturer winner is GAF, Wayne, N.J.

The Charlie Raymond Award is named for former NRCA President and J.A. Piper Award winner Charlie Raymond, who first became chairman of NRCA’s Membership Committee when the association had only 328 members and is responsible for recruiting many more. Raymond recruited the 1,000th member for NRCA in 1973. Each year, the Charlie Raymond Award honors contractors and associate members for their efforts to recruit NRCA members.
