Memphis-based Varco Pruden Buildings has donated $ 5,000 to the Mid-South chapter of the American Red Cross.
The check was presented by Chuck Haslebacher, Varco Pruden president, on behalf of the BlueScope Steel Foundation.
“As a Memphis company, we believe it is important to support our community,” Haslebacher says. “You never know when disaster may strike and while we can’t always be on the front lines with the Red Cross during a disaster, we must provide all the support we can.”
During hurricane Sandy the Red Cross mobilized the full resources of the organization across the country to get help to people affected by the storm. Emergency response vehicles, normally residing at the Mid-South Chapter were activated to distribute meals, water, snacks and relief supplies.
More than 5,800 Red Cross workers from all 50 states, were supporting shelters, providing food and water at fixed sites, and driving through neighborhoods to distribute meals and supplies. About 90 percent of these workers are volunteers and the Mid South was well in the mix.
