The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) promoted Vincent Sagan, PE, to director of codes and standards from senior staff engineer. Sagan started working at the MBMA in that role in 2015. Also, the association hired John Paul (J.P.) Cardin, PE, as assistant director of research and engineering.
Tony Bouquot, general manager at the MBMA, says, “We are very excited to bring on [Cardin] and promote [Sagan]. It is with great pride that we announce [Sagan’s] new position. He will be our point person with respect to codes, expanding a role in which he has performed admirably for many years. [Cardin] has a wealth of experience in the industry, and his work with AISI is a great asset to the MBMA. It’s our pleasure to welcome him aboard.”

Cardin is a licensed professional civil engineer in the State of Washington who has worked in the steel industry for 12 years. He was previously regional director of codes and standards at the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and principal at CFSteel Group, his consulting firm based in Sandpoint, Idaho.
At AISI, Cardin worked with MBMA and its members and is an active member of many code development committees and organizations, including the ICC structural code development committee, ASCE 7 load combinations subcommittee, ASCE 7 rain and snow loads subcommittee, and AISC fire design subcommittee.
Sagan has administrated metal building industry research and engineering projects, answered technical inquiries on metal building systems, and interacted with United States code and standards organizations on behalf of the MBMA. He will continue with many of these tasks while also overseeing the process of MBMA becoming an ANSI-accredited standards organization.
