Insulated Metal Panels

Kingspan’s contractor-friendly K-Roc FX fire-rated IMP system

Kingspan Insulated Panels North America (KIPNA) introduced a fire-rated insulated metal panel system featuring a mineral wool insulation core.

“Fire-rated IMPs are critical for many commercial and industrial projects, but contractors also need building envelope solutions that help them work efficiently in the field,” said KIPNA’s Karim Muri.

Tested to ASTM E119 and ULC-S101 standards, the new K-Roc FX IMP system is available in 4-in., 6-in., and 8-in. thicknesses. Wall applications can achieve a 1-hour fire rating with 4-in. panels and up to a 3-hour rating with 8-in. panels. For ceiling applications, the system can achieve up to a 2-hour rating with 8-in. panels. Specific installation requirements vary by assembly.

ASTM E283 testing showed air leakage of 0.01 cfm/sf of panel area at 6.24 psf, while ASTM E331 testing showed no uncontrolled water penetration at a 10 psf differential pressure.

The system has a 42-in. cover width and can be installed vertically or horizontally. To reduce the amount of field work, K-Roc FX includes factory-applied Promat intumescent tape in the panel joint. This replaces the need to field-apply beads of Safire intumescent mastic.
